iOS 4.1 Features

We previously reported that Apple launches iOS 4.1 and iPhone SDK 4.1 to developers. At the time the changes in the update were unknown, but now we have a few details. The most prominent update is of course the changes in the signal bars, as Apple previously described.

Apple has just released iOS 4.1 and iPhone SDK 4.1 beta to registered developers. There is no word to what changes the updated iOS 4.1 brings, other than we are assuming the iPhone 4 signal fix is included in this update. We do know that app developers will need to ensure compatibility with this update, so it must bring some major changes.

Apple Officially Responds to iPhone 4 Signal Issues

Apple has publicly posted a letter addressing the iPhone 4 signal drop issues. Apple claims the problem is software based, where the way the signal bars are displayed make the signal drop appear greater than it actually is. Apple wil be releasing a software update for the iPhone 4 soon.

iOS 4 Jailbreak is Here

iOS 4 has been jailbroken and unlocked just hours after it’s public release. The iPhone Dev Team has released a beta version of redsn0w which can jailbreak the iPod Touch 2nd generation, iPhone 3G, and the iPhone 3GS. The beta can also unlock the iPhone 3G with iOS 4.

As expected, Apple today released iOS 4, the company’s next-generation operating system for the iPhone and iPod touch. Those looking for the update can connect their devices to iTunes and click the “Checking for Update” button. You will need the latest version of iTunes (iTunes 9.2) to update.

iPod touch Wi-Fi stays connected when asleep in iOS 4

One interesting note on Apple’s iOS 4 information page is that Wi-Fi will never sleep on the iPod Touch in iOS 4. This will allow push notifications and other things like Skype calls to work when the device is sleeping.
