One interesting feature of the new iPod touch that Steve Job failed to mention is that it can vibrate. This can be useful for receiving notifications virtually silently, especially call notifications from VoIP apps. Apple markets the primary function of the vibrate function as a way to notify you about FaceTeime calls.

Apple announced a new iPod touch today that brings a lot of the new features in the iPhone 4 to the iPod touch. The new iPod touch features a retina display, the Apple A4 chip, a 3-Axis Gyroscope, a front facing camera (and FaceTime), and an HD video camera with a built-in microphone on the back. Impressively the new iPod touch is even thinner than the previous model, with all these features.

During today’s special music event Jobs announced a new multi-touch iPod nano. The 6th generation iPod nano carries a 1.8 inch multi-touch screen, a clip (like the iPod shuffle), a 24 hour battery and external volume buttons. The new iPod nano also features FM radio, voice over, Nike+, a pedometer, and it works in 29 languages. Instead of putting a home button on the device, you hold down anywhere on the screen to return to the main menu.

Steve Jobs introduced the fourth generation iPod shuffle at today’s Apple media event, which is a hybrid of the second and third generation iPod shuffle. The new iPod Shuffle is a similar design to the second generation iPod shuffle, but is a little bit smaller and brings voice over and playlists from the third generation iPod shuffle.
