We heard about Apple releasing the firmware version 3.1.3 for iPhone and iPod Touch just a few days ago. The firmware did fix some bugs, however the idea behind the firmware update was to try to prevent jailbreaking. What Apple has done is removed the digital signature on the 3.1.2 firmware.
This means that with most new devices you will not be able to downgrade and jailbreak the device. The iPhone Dev Team, Geo Hot and other people are obviously working very hard for ways around this. I think we will see a solution within the next few weeks, we will keep you updated.
